FAQ

Q. What happens after an acupuncture treatment?

In general, you will most likely feel relaxed after an acupuncture treatment. Acupuncture stimulates release of hormones, including endorphin, adrenaline, and serotonin in the brain, which trigger pure relaxation. Many people have reported decreased pain and increased energy. Some people say their body feels lighter or they even had a sense of euphoria.

Q. Does the needles hurt?

Diameter of acupuncture needles is 0.16mm, which is a little thicker than a human hair. You won’t feel it when they are inserted through the skin, but you might have unique sensations when acupressure points are stimulated. Think of those sensations as a good sign.

Q. Are there any side effects?

Although rare, “Mengen phenomena” (healing crisis) might occur after an acupuncture and/or moxibustion. Healing crisis is a body’s reaction during the detoxification process stimulated by acupuncture and includes dizziness, nausea, sleepiness, fatigue, fever and mild pain.

Unlike side effects, your original symptoms will dramatically improve after the healing crisis is settled. To minimize the healing crisis, drink lots of water and rest after a treatment.
